Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang—First Improvement: Regarding Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang, the dosage in "Yi Lin Gai Cu" is: 50–100 g Astragalus membranaceus, 10 g Angelica sinensis, 7.5 g Radix Paeoniae Alba, 5 g Earthworm, 7 g Ligusticum chuanxiong, 5 g Persicae Semen, 5 g Carthamus tinctorius. This formula is still used clinically for stroke. However, after improvement, there remain shortcomings. According to TCM theory, patients with cerebral thrombosis, cerebral infarction, and cerebral vascular spasm all fall under the category of stroke involving the meridians. Stroke etiology results from wind-phlegm invading the channels leading to blood stasis obstruction. Therefore, further refinement was made: 500 g Astragalus membranaceus, 20 g Angelica sinensis, 20 g Radix Paeoniae Alba, 25 g Earthworm, 20 g Ligusticum chuanxiong, 20 g Persicae Semen, 50 g Carthamus tinctorius, 20 g Citrus reticulata peel, 20 g Bombyx batryticatus, 50 g Cicada slough, 10 g Saposhnikovia divaricata, 10 g Schizonepeta tenuifolia, 10 g Pinellia ternata. After clinical application, the effect became significantly more pronounced, even eliminating sequelae.The function of Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang is to tonify qi, activate blood circulation, remove stasis, and unblock meridians. Raw Astragalus used in large doses acts powerfully and circulates throughout the body, greatly replenishing vital energy and restoring paralysis. Combined with six other blood-activating and stasis-resolving herbs, the purpose is not merely to expel stasis but to invigorate blood and unblock meridians. Thus, using large-dose Astragalus as the primary herb aims to promote blood flow through qi tonification. The second improvement added herbs to dispel wind and resolve phlegm, resulting in even better outcomes. I share my personal experience with Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang solely to stimulate discussion and inspire medical professionals to develop more effective formulas for patient benefit. <Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang>
