Cornus Fruit (Shan Yu Rou)
Cornus fruit comes from the fruit of Cornus officinalis (Cornaceae). It contains vitamin A, cornin, saponins, tannins, ursolic acid, gallic acid, malic acid, tartaric acid. It has diuretic and antihypertensive effects. It also helps increase cell count reduced by chemotherapy. When combined with nourishing yin herbs like Goji berries and Rehmannia glutinosa in food preparations, it can form nourishing yang tonics, showing good efficacy in treating hypertension, neurasthenia, and sexual dysfunction.In TCM, it is neutral in nature, sweet and sour in taste. Its functions include nourishing liver and kidney, consolidating yin, stopping sweating, and rescuing from collapse. It is a key herb for nourishing kidney yin, primarily used for liver-kidney yin deficiency.
