Acupoint Plaster Therapy for Hypertension
Hypertension is a common and widespread condition that can damage vital organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it falls under categories like "headache" and "dizziness," attributed to imbalance between liver and kidney yin and yang. Based on TCM theory and meridian principles, combining syndrome differentiation with disease identification, we have selected effective herbs for lowering blood pressure after years of research and practice. These herbs are applied directly onto the "Shenque" acupoint (umbilicus), where all meridians converge, to harmonize yin and yang and achieve "yin balance and yang harmony." Through meridian transmission, the medicine reaches the affected area, thus preventing and treating hypertension and cerebrovascular diseases. The specific method is: Mix finely powdered herbs with benefits for liver and kidney tonification, blood activation, and collateral unblocking—such as Achyranthes root and Ligusticum—and store in a dry place. When applying, lie supine, accurately locate the acupoint, clean the Shenque area with an alcohol cotton ball, place 5–10 grams of the herb powder on the site, secure firmly, then fix with Xianggui Blood-Activating Plaster or gauze and adhesive tape. Maintain for 3–4 days; one course consists of 10 applications. Most patients experience relief or disappearance of symptoms such as headache, dizziness, palpitations, fatigue, and limb numbness after 1–2 courses, with significant and gradually stabilized blood pressure reduction. Some patients with hyperlipidemia also show decreased lipid levels, along with notable weight-loss effects. This therapy works best for early- to mid-stage primary hypertension and can alleviate symptoms in severe cases. It is simple to apply, offers rapid and effective blood pressure reduction without side effects, making it suitable for frail individuals who cannot tolerate frequent or prolonged oral antihypertensive drugs. However, it is mainly effective for primary hypertension and less so for secondary hypertension. During treatment, avoid emotional stress and mood swings, eat more vegetables and fruits, adopt a low-salt, low-fat diet, quit smoking and alcohol, and other stimulants, maintain work-rest balance, ensure adequate sleep, and engage in moderate physical activity if possible. For higher blood pressure, combine with acupuncture or other methods to enhance efficacy.<Hypertension>
