Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula for Stroke
(1) Wind Invading Meridians Type: Symptoms include hemiplegia, facial droop, numbness of skin, fever with aversion to cold, pale red tongue, thin white coating, slippery or taut pulse.
Formula: Rou Gui 6g, Pao Fu Zi 5g, Ma Huang 5g, Fang Feng, Fang Ji, Dang Gui each 12g, Ren Shen, Chuan Xiong, Bai Shao, Xing Ren, Huang Qi, Gan Cao each 10g, Sheng Jiang 5 slices.
(2) Bowel Obstruction Type
Symptoms: Hemiplegia, facial droop, fullness in the epigastrium, constipation, yellowish urine, or dizziness and irritability, red tongue, yellow or greasy coating, slippery or taut pulse.
Formula: Hou Po, Da Huang, Zhi Shi, Gan Cao each 10g.
(3) Qi Deficiency with Phlegm Obstruction Type
Symptoms: Hemiplegia, facial droop, sallow complexion, speech difficulty, clear and thin phlegm, dizziness or blurred vision, pale tongue with tooth marks, white slippery or greasy coating, slippery or taut pulse.
Formula: Modified Liu Junzi Tang: Ren Shen, Gan Cao each 10g, Fu Ling, Bai Zhu, Chen Pi each 15g, Ban Xia, Zhu Ru, Dan Nan Xing each 15g.
(4) Qi Deficiency with Blood Stagnation Type
Symptoms: Limb weakness, muscle twitching or pain, pale or dark purple tongue, ecchymosis, thin white coating, deep fine or sluggish pulse.
Formula: Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang: Sheng Huang Qi 30g, Dang Gui, Tao Ren, Chi Shao, Chuan Xiong, Zhi Di Long, Hong Hua each 15g.
(5) Qi Stagnation in Meridians Type
Symptoms: Paralysis or facial droop, distension and fullness in chest and hypochondrium, relief with sighing, epigastric fullness, pale red tongue, thin white coating, taut pulse.
Formula: Ba Wei Shun Qi San: Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Bai Zhi, Wu Yao, Qing Pi each 10g, Fu Ling, Chen Pi each 15g, Gan Cao 8g.
(6) Exuberant Heat Pathogen Type
Symptoms: Hemiplegia, facial droop, flushed face, thirst with preference for cold drinks, yellowish-red urine, red tongue with yellow coating, rapid and forceful pulse.
Formula: Chuan Xiong, Bai Shao, Bai Zhu, Ju Hua, Jie Geng, Jing Jie Sui, Lian Qiao, Huang Qin, Han Shui Shi each 10g, Dang Gui, Shi Gao each 15g, Sha Ren, Bo He, Hua Shi, Da Huang each 5g.
(7) Dual Deficiency of Qi and Blood Type
Symptoms: Weakness and limpness in limbs, pallor or swelling, pale complexion, shortness of breath, low voice, fatigue, aversion to wind with spontaneous sweating, pale white tongue with tooth marks, fine weak pulse.
Formula: Ba Zhen Tang: Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Chuan Xiong, Bai Shao, Gan Cao each 10g, Shu Di, Fu Ling, Dang Gui each 15g.
(8) Liver Wind Accompanied by Phlegm Type
Symptoms: Hemiplegia, facial droop, dizziness or headache, irritability, excessive phlegm, limb numbness, red tongue with white greasy coating, taut or slippery pulse.
Formula: Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Tian Ma, Ju Hong each 15g, Ban Xia, Gan Cao each 10g, Sheng Jiang 3 slices, Da Zao 3 pieces.<Stroke>
