Buffalo Horn
This product is the horn of the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis Linnaeus). After harvesting, boil in water, remove the horn core, and dry.
【Appearance】The horn is slightly flattened and curved, of uneven length. Surface: dark brown or gray-black, with several transverse grooves on one side and dense transverse depressions on the other. Upper part tapers to a point with longitudinal ridges; base slightly triangular and hollow. Horn-like texture, hard. Odor: faintly fishy; taste: bland.
【Taste and Meridian Entry】Bitter, cold. Enters the heart and liver meridians.
【Function and Indications】Clears heat and detoxifies, cools blood, calms shock. Used for high fever in warm diseases, delirium, petechiae, rash, hematemesis, epistaxis, convulsions, mania.
【Usage and Dosage】15–30 grams; should be decocted first for over 3 hours.
【Storage】Keep in a dry place, protected from mold.
