Cassia Seed

This product is the dried mature seed of Cassia obtusifolia L. or Cassia tora L., plants belonging to the Fabaceae family. The mature fruits are harvested in autumn, sun-dried, and the seeds are threshed out and cleaned of impurities.
【Characteristics】Cassia seeds are slightly rhomboid or short cylindrical in shape, with both ends parallel and inclined, measuring 3~7 mm in length and 2~4 mm in width. The surface is greenish-brown or dark brown, smooth and lustrous. One end is relatively flat, while the other is obliquely pointed. There is a prominent ridge on both the dorsal and ventral sides, with two symmetrical, lighter-colored linear depressions on either side of the ridge. The texture is hard and not easily broken. The seed coat is thin; the two cotyledons are yellow, folded into an "S" shape and overlapping. The aroma is faint, and the taste is slightly bitter.
Small cassia seeds are shorter and smaller in size, measuring 3~5 mm in length and 2~3 mm in width. The ridges on both sides of the seed are each accompanied by a broad, light yellowish-brown band.
【Taste and Meridian Affinity】Sweet, bitter, salty; slightly cold. Enters the Liver and Large Intestine meridians.
【Function and Indications】Clears heat and improves vision, moistens the intestines and promotes bowel movements. Used for redness and irritation of the eyes, photophobia with excessive tearing, headache and dizziness, blurred vision, and constipation.
【Usage and Dosage】9~15 g.
【Storage】Keep in a dry place.
