Seven Words for Elderly Health Preservation

🔑 Keywords: Health-preserving Diet
A German medical expert, after decades of research, concluded that middle-aged and elderly people aiming for healthy longevity must focus on the seven words: "Protect, Move, Shift, Participate, Sleep, Adjust, Listen."
"Protect" means maintaining mental vitality. Use it or lose it—middle-aged and elderly people should persist in reading, writing, painting, playing chess, and cultivating various interests. Research shows that a 65-year-old who frequently uses their brain performs mentally as well as a 35-year-old sedentary youth.
"Move" refers to finger activity. Hands are closely linked to the brain. Regular finger exercises and alternating hand movements stimulate the brain, enhancing intelligence and delaying aging.
"Shift" means switching between different types of activities. After prolonged monotonous work or studying, switch to other activities promptly to prevent mental fatigue and maintain optimal brain function. Walking and calisthenics are excellent options.
"Participate" means joining social and physical activities. Making friends with younger people and maintaining joyful moods helps relieve fatigue, improve mood, and strengthen the body.
"Sleep" means ensuring adequate rest. Middle-aged and elderly people should adopt scientific, regular lifestyles, schedule rest properly, avoid all-nighters or fatigue battles, and guarantee eight hours (ten for seniors) of sleep daily.
"Adjust" means scientifically balanced diet. Mix coarse and fine grains, balance nutrition, consume abundant vitamins and minerals from dates, milk, soy milk, egg yolks, sesame, walnuts, lilies, vegetables, and fruits, while reducing intake of animal fats and high-sugar foods.
"Listen" means listening to beautiful music. Pleasant melodies enhance brain vitality, regulate central nervous system function, and bring a sense of refreshment and joy.
