Three Things to Do After Eating
It is beneficial to enjoy music after meals
According to *Shou Shi Bao Yuan*: "The spleen enjoys sounds; hearing music activates digestion." Daoist texts also state: "The spleen digests when it hears music." This suggests that gentle, cheerful music or pleasant surroundings can serve as positive stimuli, regulating digestive and absorptive functions via the central nervous system.
It is advisable to massage the abdomen after meals
After eating, gently rub the abdomen with warm hands, moving from top to bottom and left to right, or in a clockwise direction using circular motions. This enhances blood circulation in the abdominal cavity and strengthens gastrointestinal digestion.
It is recommended to walk slowly after meals—exercise should follow one’s natural inclination
Sun Simiao emphasized in *Qian Jin Yi Fang*: "After eating, walking leisurely (as if hesitating) leads to longevity." Thus, post-meal walking should be slow and gentle, aiding digestion and promoting health. Rapid walking after meals harms health and may cause disease.
