Description and Treatment of Palpitations

Disease Description
Palpitations include fright palpitations and persistent palpitations, referring to the patient's subjective sensation of heart fluttering, restlessness, and even loss of control. Clinically, it is often paroxysmal, frequently triggered by emotional fluctuations or overwork. It commonly coexists with symptoms such as insomnia, forgetfulness, dizziness, and tinnitus. The causes of palpitations are often related to heart deficiency and gallbladder timidity, blood deficiency in the heart, weakened heart yang, internal retention of fluid, and blood stasis obstructing the vessels. In modern medicine, various arrhythmias caused by different reasons—such as tachycardia, bradycardia, premature beats, atrial fibrillation, atrioventricular conduction block, bundle branch block, sick sinus syndrome, pre-excitation syndrome, heart failure, myocarditis, pericarditis, and certain neuroses—are all included within this category.
1. Licorice and Alisma Decoction
Formula: Decoct and take once daily. For patients with spontaneous sweating and insomnia, first take Guizhi Longgu Muli Tang until accompanying symptoms disappear, then proceed to this formula.
Preparation and Usage: Prepared licorice, raw licorice, and alisma each 30g; astragalus 15g
2. Qi-Tonifying, Yang-Warming, and Blood-Activating Decoction
Formula: Take one dose daily, decocted and consumed orally. Add raw rehmannia, ophiopogon, and schisandra if yin deficiency; add plantago seed for lower limb edema; add platycodon for frequent premature beats.
Preparation and Usage: Codonopsis, astragalus, and salvia each 30g; psoralea and processed aconite each 9g; ligusticum 12g; cinnamon twig and licorice each 6g<palpitations disease>
