Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine Treatment for AIDS Superior to Western Medicine Alone
This news report (by correspondent Chen Minglian) reveals preliminary comparative data from Beijing Ditan Hospital indicating that integrated Chinese-Western medicine treatment for AIDS outperforms purely antiviral therapy. This marks the first time in China that data analysis on the efficacy of integrated Chinese-Western medicine treatment for AIDS has been presented.
Beijing Ditan Hospital’s base for integrated Chinese-Western medicine treatment of infectious diseases conducted a preliminary comparison between 32 HIV-infected patients receiving combined Chinese and Western medicine treatment and 33 patients receiving only Western medicine treatment during the same period. Results showed that, under effective antiviral therapy, integrated treatment significantly improved immune function (CD4 T-cell count) compared to purely Western medicine antiviral therapy. After three months of herbal treatment, patients exhibited notable improvements in immune markers and quality of life, with statistically significant differences before and after treatment. Clinical symptoms, particularly fatigue, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, showed the most prominent improvement. 87.50% of patients experienced weight gain or maintained stable weight. Dr. Wang Rongbing, a leading expert in integrated Chinese-Western medicine, believes that integrated treatment for AIDS surpasses purely antiviral therapy. Appropriate Chinese medicine can alleviate symptoms and enhance disease resistance in AIDS patients and carriers. According to the experts, integrating Chinese medicine into AIDS treatment is most suitable during early stages when patients still possess some antiviral capacity, entering a phase of struggle between pathogenic and righteous qi. At this stage, Chinese medicine can protect cellular immunity and enhance antiviral ability. Although Chinese medicine is not strong in direct antiviral action, it has fewer side effects and is suitable for early standalone use, potentially delaying the need for antiviral drugs and avoiding numerous adverse reactions, or enabling concurrent use with antivirals.
Previously, clinical practice has proven that Chinese medicine can improve the quality of life for AIDS patients. However, evidence regarding its impact on current AIDS treatment efficacy indicators and rigorous comparative analyses with purely Western medicine treatment have been lacking.
