Causes and TCM Treatment of Food Indigestion
Eating too much meat: leads to poor appetite, abdominal distension and pain, belching and nausea. Use 90g of roasted hawthorn fruit, grind into fine powder, take 15g per dose with warm water twice daily. For discomfort caused by beef, use a handful of dry rice straw, boil into concentrated decoction, drink hot. For discomfort from excessive dog or lamb meat, use 14 hawthorns and 24 apricot kernels, boil into concentrated decoction for consumption.
Eating too much noodles: causes loss of appetite and abdominal distension. Use 30g of fermented wheat, 10g of stir-fried radish seeds, 10g of malt, boil in water, take once daily, divided into three doses.
Eating too much grain: causes decreased appetite. Take an appropriate amount of scorched rice crust (from millet, glutinous rice, or regular rice), burn to ash, grind into powder, take 5g with warm water three times daily. Alternatively, boil 30g of stir-fried malt or crush raw radish and extract juice for consumption. For overeating glutinous rice balls (tangyuan): boil 30g of stir-fried malt and take.
Eating too many eggs: use 30g of fermented wheat soaked in water, drink; or mix one tablespoon of vinegar with rice gruel.
Eating too many raw fruits and cold foods: use 1.5g of cloves and 15g of fermented wheat, soak in water and drink as tea.
Eating too much fish: causes discomfort. Use 15g of red yeast rice, boil in water and take.
