TCM Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment for Summer Cold
In TCM, winter-spring colds and summer-autumn colds differ in etiology, syndrome differentiation, and treatment. Winter-spring colds are typically due to external invasion of wind-cold, while summer-autumn colds are often caused by summer heat and dampness. Summer colds present with fever, chills, dizziness, fatigue, heavy limbs, nausea, and vomiting. Treatment should focus on dispelling summer heat.
For mild symptoms, use Yinqiao Jiedu Wan (Silver Flower Detoxifying Pill). For more severe cases with sore throat, use Lingqiao Jiedu Wan (Lingqiao Detoxifying Pill). Additionally, use fresh reed root 30g and fresh mint 15g, boil into decoction and drink as tea for early-stage wind-heat colds. For high fever, use 15g of Canarium leaf, 15g of Bidens bipinnata, and 30g of Commelina communis, boil in water and take.
