Never Work Immediately After Meals!
A 30-something patient from a private company reported persistent dizziness, insomnia, mental tension, memory decline, fatigue, and sluggish thinking for months. After thorough examination by a neurologist, the diagnosis was chronic brain overwork—specifically, prolonged intense mental labor immediately after meals. Doctors thus warn those engaged in intellectual work: always rest for at least half an hour after eating before resuming work.
After meals, blood redistributes toward digestive organs, causing relative cerebral hypoperfusion and resulting in drowsiness. Additionally, increased levels of amino acids from digested food suppress brain alertness. Working under such conditions inevitably increases brain load. Those with family history or risk factors for cardiovascular disease may significantly increase their risk of heart or brain disorders if they start intense mental tasks immediately after eating. Prevention is crucial.
Some try to overcome post-meal drowsiness by immediately working, using cold water to wash their face, slapping their head, or applying menthol oil. These actions harm digestion and fail to quickly restore normal brain function. Only allowing the brain to rest fully for 30 minutes, relaxing emotions, prevents long-term brain damage and lifelong suffering caused by short-term habits.
