Experts: Eat Less Meat, More Grains

Dietary structure is closely related to people's daily lives. Experts point out several key issues in dietary structure:
First, ensure adequate intake of vegetables and fruits. Although vitamins C, carotene, and various antioxidants are less abundant in fruits than in vegetables, fruits contain higher levels of organic acids and pectin. Consuming more vegetables and fruits benefits the prevention of certain chronic diseases and some cancers. Currently, Shanghai residents' intake of vegetables and fruits remains insufficient and should be increased appropriately, especially dark green leafy vegetables rich in carotene, vitamin C, and multiple antioxidants.
Second, increase intake of dairy and soy products. Soybeans are rich in protein, unsaturated fatty acids, other nutrients, and bioactive components, but current consumption is still inadequate and should be moderately increased. Additionally, although Shanghai residents' intake of milk and dairy products has increased compared to ten years ago, it still falls short of recommended nutritional standards and must be further increased.

In addition, grains must be prioritized as the foundation of health preservation.
· Daily grain intake should ideally be 400–500 grams;
· Vegetable and fruit intake should ideally be 300–400 grams;
· Dairy, bean, and their byproduct intake should ideally be 200–300 grams;
· Meat, fish, and egg intake should ideally be around 100–200 grams;
· Pay attention to controlling intake of oils, sugars, and salt.
