Can Diabetics Drink Alcohol?
Diabetics should avoid alcohol, especially heavy drinking. If alcohol consumption is desired, only wine and beer are permitted, and in small quantities. For patients with well-controlled condition, normal liver function, not using insulin or sulfonylurea drugs, and without chronic diseases of heart, brain, liver, or kidney, moderate drinking is allowed—no more than 100ml per occasion, and no more than twice weekly. Alcoholic beverages such as baijiu (Chinese liquor) are strictly prohibited for diabetics. Consult a diabetes specialist for guidance, as health tonics have specific indications and are not suitable for everyone. Misuse may not only fail to promote health but also harm the body.
