Improper Vegetable Consumption May Cause Childhood Diabetes
Research from Monash University and Melbourne International Institute of Diabetes in Australia indicates that childhood diabetes is linked to toxic components in certain vegetables.
Researchers discovered that some vegetables infected by microorganisms in the soil produce a chemical toxin harmful to the pancreas, damaging insulin-producing cells and potentially triggering diabetes. This toxin is harmless to most healthy individuals but extremely sensitive to those with Type I diabetes genetic factors, possibly inducing the disease.
Australia has about 150,000 Type I diabetes patients, and the exact cause remains unknown. The president of the Australian Diabetes Council described the findings as "promising," offering valuable clues to uncovering the disease’s origin. However, applying this in clinical treatment may still require considerable time. (Xu Xin)
