Eight Pre-Sleep Health Methods
1. Nail-Tip Scalp Massage: Bend the index, middle, and ring fingers at 45 degrees, use the nail tips to massage the scalp back and forth at a rate of 8 times per second for 1–2 minutes. This enhances blood supply, boosts circulation, and speeds up sleep onset.
2. Palming Ear Rubbing: Place the thumb sides of both palms tightly against the lower front part of the ears, rub from bottom to top and from front to back for 1–2 minutes. This clears meridians, reduces heat, calms the mind, and prevents hearing deterioration.
3. Palming Face Rubbing: Press both palm surfaces firmly against the face, rub all facial areas slowly at 2 times per second for 1–2 minutes. This clears head and face meridians, promotes sleep, and prevents wrinkles.
4. Neck and Shoulder Rubbing: Use both palms to alternately rub the neck and shoulder muscles at 2 times per minute for 1–2 minutes, focusing on the sides of the neck spine. This relieves fatigue and prevents neck and shoulder disorders.
5. Chest and Back Pushing: Use the thumb sides of both palms to push downward from top to bottom at 2 times per second, applying firm pressure along the back and front chest, especially focusing on the front chest and lower back. Perform for about 2–3 minutes. This strengthens the heart, supports the waist, and clears internal organ meridians.
6. Palm Pushing Along Legs: Place both palms opposite each other, press tightly against the upper part of the lower limbs, and push downward at a rate of once per second for 1 minute, then repeat on the other leg. This method relieves lower limb fatigue and clears the six foot meridians.
7. Alternating Foot Rubbing: Rub the entire left foot sole with the right foot sole, then rub the entire right foot sole with the left foot sole. Next, rub the left foot sole with the right heel, then rub the right foot sole with the left heel. Perform for about 2–3 minutes. This eliminates foot fatigue and promotes smooth flow of qi and blood through meridians.
8. Overlapping Hand Abdominal Massage: Stack both palms tightly against the abdomen, continuously circle the entire area at 1–2 times per second, focusing on the navel and surrounding region. Perform for about 2–3 minutes. This strengthens the spleen and stomach, promoting digestion and absorption.
The above eight pre-sleep health methods are benign, side-effect-free practices. Long-term adherence promotes overall metabolism and positively contributes to disease prevention and longevity. During practice, close your eyes, calm your mind, lightly touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth, and fully relax your body. Methods 1–7 can be performed while sitting; Method 8 is best done lying down. For optimal results, ensure the techniques are applied directly onto the skin for deeper penetration.
Total duration for performing all eight methods is approximately 12–18 minutes. Elderly or frail individuals may perform for 12 minutes; younger, healthier individuals may do 18 minutes. After completion, the body feels relaxed and ready for peaceful sleep.
