Spring Temperature Rises: Early Spring Avoid Wind Like the Plague
Spring temperatures gradually rise, and human metabolism revives from its winter low. Sweat pores open, blood vessels dilate, and many rush to shed winter clothes. But when wind (or cold fronts) blows in, it penetrates deeply, invading the skin, joints, and meridians, triggering various diseases known in TCM as “wind disorders.”
“Wind disorders” encompass many conditions: respiratory diseases such as colds, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and pneumonia; cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases including stroke, hypertension, coronary heart disease, angina, myocardial infarction, and cerebral hemorrhage; skin conditions like facial paralysis, shoulder periarthritis, rheumatism, arthritis, old injuries flaring up, mental illness, headaches; and dermatological issues such as peach blossom eczema, hives, allergic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and conjunctivitis.
Therefore, during early spring, follow the principle of “dress warmly in spring, let cold build in autumn.” Pay attention to warmth and wind protection, adjusting clothing appropriately. Additionally, engage in suitable exercises such as walking, jogging, calisthenics, kite flying, or ball games—these not only cultivate mood and character but also promote smooth qi and blood flow, dispel stagnation, and enhance heart and lung function.
