Shang Bi Ye (Nasal Congestion)

[Formula] Scutellaria baicalensis 7.5g, purple flowered Euphorbia pekinensis 7.5g, raw licorice 7.5g, ephedrine 15g, nipagin 1.5g, 95% ethanol 2000ml.
[Preparation] Boil the first three ingredients with distilled water (3000ml each time) for 1 hour, filter, then boil again with water for half an hour. Combine the two filtrates to make about 4000ml, let stand for 24 hours to remove precipitate, adjust pH to 6–7, boil with sodium bicarbonate, concentrate to approximately 1000ml, cool, add 95% ethanol, let stand for another 24 hours, take the clear liquid, reduce ethanol under reduced pressure until no alcohol smell remains, then add distilled water to make up to 3000ml, filter to obtain clear liquid. Add nipagin and ephedrine; if turbidity appears, filter through paper again. The resulting red-brown transparent solution is divided into bottles of 10ml each.
[Function] Promotes nasal ventilation and reduces swelling.
[Indications] Nasal congestion, head heaviness, excessive and unproductive nasal discharge.
[Usage] External use, drop into nose. 1–2 drops per time, 3 times daily.
