[Drug Composition] Epimedium (hair and edges removed, stir-fried black with goat fat) four taels Golden currant (seed removed) one catty Achyranthes one tael Body of Angelica Ligusticum one tael Morinda one tael Dodder seed two taels Fennel (stir-fried) one tael Old paper (stir-fried) two taels Cinnamon bark one tael Eucommia (ginger stir-fried) one tael Agarwood five qian
[Function and Indications] Strengthen yang, consolidate essence, strengthen tendons and bones, replenish marrow, extend fertility and longevity. Suitable for middle-aged people with insufficient qi and blood; also treats chronic cold in lower energizer, weak waist and knees, erectile dysfunction, nocturnal emission, and seminal leakage.
[Dosage and Administration] Drink freely as desired.
[Preparation Method] Use 20 jin of good fire wine, pack herbs in a silk bag, suspend and boil over a flame for three incense sticks’ worth of time, then bury in soil for three days, seal the mouths of 80 small bottles with clay.
[Precautions] Use with caution for those with yin deficiency and internal heat.

Comment: This formula uses Epimedium as the primary herb to tonify kidney and strengthen yang. Other herbs such as fennel, old paper, cinnamon bark are also warming tonics. Therefore, it is suitable for individuals with cold deficiency in the lower energizer and yang deficiency in the kidney. Those with dry throat and mouth, red tongue, rapid pulse—indicating kidney yin deficiency—should avoid using this formula for tonification.
