Chest Rubbing and Abdominal Massage Enhance Immunity
According to the "Life Times" report, chest rubbing and abdominal massage are among China’s ancient simple yet effective health preservation methods, particularly suitable for middle-aged and elderly people. They play a significant role in preventing obesity and enhancing immune function. A common feature among healthy, long-lived individuals is their strong immunity. Those prone to illness and slow recovery often suffer from low immunity.
The thymus gland, located beneath the sternum, has two lobes. At birth, the thymus weighs about 14–16 grams. During puberty, it reaches peak development at approximately 35–45 grams, then gradually shrinks with age. By around age 50, most of the thymus is replaced by fat, becoming the weakest endocrine gland in the body. Premature thymus atrophy contributes to aging, especially severe in old age. The concentration of thymosin drops dramatically, weakening immune function and resistance to disease, leading to various illnesses and shortened lifespan.
Modern scientific research shows that besides using medications to regulate immunity, chest rubbing is an important way to regulate thymosin and boost immunity. Chest rubbing activates dormant thymus cells, increases thymosin secretion, which then acts on various organs and tissues, enhancing immune function and greatly benefiting anti-aging and longevity.
Chest rubbing and abdominal massage are simple to perform. You may adopt a sitting or supine position. First, rub the chest: place your right hand palm on the upper right breast, fingers slanted downward, apply moderate force to push from the right upper chest to the left lower abdomen; then use your left hand from the upper left breast, pushing diagonally to the right lower abdomen. Alternate sides, one up-and-down cycle counts as one repetition, totaling 36 cycles. You may also add back rubbing, which helps activate immune cells in the back. Next, perform abdominal massage: start from the left lower part of the epigastric region with your right hand, circle clockwise around the navel as the center, one complete round counts as one repetition, perform over 50 times (increase to over 200 times for weight loss), apply moderate pressure. Then switch to your left hand, performing in the opposite direction with the same number of repetitions. Chest rubbing and abdominal massage are typically done once upon waking and once before bedtime, optionally adding a session one hour after lunch.
Practice proves that consistently performing chest rubbing and abdominal massage improves circulation in internal organs, promotes metabolism in gastrointestinal and pulmonary-kidney systems, and enhances immune function. With persistence, remarkable results will appear.
