Traditional Chinese Medicine "Pinching the Spine" Therapy

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Tuina
Pinch therapy applied to the back is called "pinching the spine" or "pinching accumulation." This technique can be used not only in children but also in adults. Pinching the spine effectively regulates the physiological functions of internal organs, particularly showing significant regulatory effects on gastrointestinal function.
Pinch therapy helps regulate intestinal motility, promotes digestion and absorption, enhances the body’s resistance, and has certain benefits for insomnia. The direction of pinching is from bottom to top, starting from the sacral hiatus to the Dazhui point at the neck. Generally perform 3–5 rounds, until the skin turns slightly red. During the final round, pinch three times and lift upward once, known as "pinch three, lift once."
There are two types of pinching techniques: three-finger pinch and two-finger pinch. Specific procedures are as follows:
1. Three-Finger Pinch: Slightly extend the wrist joints, place the thumb horizontally against the skin, and position the index and middle fingers on the skin in front of the thumb. Use all three fingers to pinch and grasp the skin, moving forward alternately with both hands.
2. Two-Finger Pinch: Slightly deviate the wrist joints toward the ulnar side, place the radial side of the middle phalanx of the index finger horizontally against the skin, and position the thumb in front of the index finger on the skin. Use the thumb and index finger to pinch and grasp the skin, moving forward alternately.
Key points for proper pinching technique:
1. Maintain a straight line—do not tilt.
2. Ensure appropriate tightness when grasping the skin.
Important precautions for pinching:
1. Maintain appropriate tightness when grasping the skin.
2. Avoid allowing the skin to slip between the fingers.
3. Maintain a straight line—do not tilt.
