There Are Specific Techniques for Stimulating the Renzhong Point

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Tuina
The Renzhong point is located at the midpoint of the nasolabial groove, an important emergency acupoint.
Pinching or needling this point can be used to treat conditions such as stroke, heatstroke, poisoning, allergic reactions, and coma, respiratory arrest, hypotension, shock occurring during surgical anesthesia.
Stimulating the Renzhong point can also influence respiratory activity. Continuous stimulation may cause sustained inhibition of exhalation, while appropriately rhythmic stimulation helps promote rhythmic breathing.
However, the effect of Renzhong on respiration is not always beneficial. Continuous stimulation causing either inspiration excitation or inhibition may lead to respiratory arrest. Therefore, attention must be paid to the technique in practical application. Research indicates that pressing or needling Renzhong with the fingertip at a rate of 20–40 times per minute, each lasting 0.5–1 second, is optimal.
