Nose Massage to Prevent Cold
Spring has arrived, and although the weather is no longer freezing, many people suffer worse sneezing and runny nose. Partly due to unpredictable weather changes causing colds, partly because spring is a peak season for allergic rhinitis. These causes of nasal discomfort can all be alleviated through massage.
The method involves rubbing the outer sides of both thumbs against each other until warmth is felt, then massaging up and down the nasal bridge and along the sides of the nostrils about 30 times. Next, massage the Yingxiang points (located 0.5 cm lateral to the alar base) 15–20 times. You can use both thumbs or one thumb and index finger. Generally, rub 20–30 times daily, ideally twice a day—once in the morning upon waking and once before bedtime.
Motion should start light and gradually increase in intensity, avoiding skin damage. Besides morning and evening routines, you may perform it during free time. This practice clears meridians, enhances local blood circulation, greatly strengthens resistance to cold, and helps prevent colds and relieve nasal congestion and runny nose.
