Try Pinching Method for Infant Indigestion

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Tuina
"I don’t want injections! I don’t want medicine!" When babies suffer indigestion or loss of appetite, their cries often leave parents helpless. But did you know there’s a method that allows children to recover without medication or injections?
This is the pediatric pinching technique, which inherits 150 years of Chinese tuina tradition and integrates modern techniques. Based on theories of yin-yang, Wu Xing (Five Elements), and meridians, it involves pinching and lifting along the Governor Vessel and bladder meridian points on the child’s back to regulate yin-yang balance.
Dr. Zheng Jun, head of pediatrics at Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, says: "In TCM, the abdomen is yin, the back is yang. The Governor Vessel runs centrally along the spine—it is yang among yang. Pinching the Governor Vessel boosts yang energy. Internal organ points lie on the bladder meridian; pinching this meridian stimulates organ points. Thus, the pinching method effectively treats infant indigestion, diarrhea, spleen-stomach disharmony, and slow growth. Years of research and clinical trials confirm it improves anemia, increases appetite, strengthens physique, and even affects the nervous system—helpful for treating infant night crying. Compared to Western medicine, it avoids injections and pills, reducing patient suffering."
Dr. Zheng notes that a full course of pediatric pinching lasts six consecutive days, with 10 repetitions each session, done in the morning when yang energy begins to rise—this yields better results. Usually, by the third or fourth day, picky eaters begin feeling hungry.
Naturally, different patients require tailored approaches. Doctors adjust based on symptoms—such as stool consistency—and may combine oral Feng’s Digestive Powder and external Feng’s Blood Stasis Ointment with manual pinching. Some children also receive auxiliary massage therapy. Beyond digestive issues, the pinching method also shows good efficacy for respiratory system diseases in children.
