Knee-Hugging Rolling for Back and Waist Pain
Waist and back pain is a common condition. Causes include: untreated acute lumbar sprain leading to chronic back pain; long-term bending work causing chronic muscle fatigue and strain; exposure to wind, cold, and dampness causing rheumatic pain; elderly spinal osteophyte formation compressing surrounding nerves; and lack of physical activity leading to premature atrophy and degeneration of back muscles.
People suffering from chronic back and waist pain often rely on medication, injections, acupuncture, or physiotherapy to alleviate symptoms, but these methods do not address the root cause. The ancient knee-hugging rolling therapy offers unexpected benefits. The method is as follows: lie supine on the bed, gaze at the ceiling, bend knees and hips, bring both thighs tightly against the abdomen, cross fingers of both hands behind the lower legs, pull the shins toward the chest as close as possible, then roll forcefully to the left until the left ear, shoulder, and arm touch the bed. Turn around and roll to the right similarly. Repeat this rolling motion 30–50 times, which will make you feel completely relaxed and significantly reduce waist pain. Perform this once in the morning upon waking and once in the evening before sleep to achieve excellent therapeutic effects.
The principle of knee-hugging rolling is: bending the knees and hugging the legs forms a rounded body shape, stretching the back and waist muscles into a relaxed state. Rolling creates mechanical friction between the back muscles and the bed surface. Movement elongates muscle fibers, dilates blood vessels, improves blood circulation, delivering more nutrients and oxygen to the back. Thus, the resistance of back muscles increases, promoting the resolution of inflammation and swelling. Stretching contracted muscles and ligaments prevents adhesions, muscle atrophy, and osteophyte formation. Maintaining normal back and waist function gradually eliminates symptoms of back and waist pain. This method is simple, practical, and free of side effects.
