"Tui Long" Therapy to Relieve Fatigue

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Massage
In southern Fujian and Taiwan, an ancient percussion therapy known as "Tui Long" has been practiced. The most common site for Tui Long is the back, which contains many acupoints. Percussion enhances the body’s resistance to disease. The back is rich in nerves that regulate visceral functions, especially the Du Meridian, which plays a crucial role in the meridian system. Through Tui Long, blood and qi circulation are promoted, strengthening connections with all meridians throughout the body. After Tui Long, people often feel relaxed, refreshed, and energized. In Chapter 53 of *Dream of the Red Chamber*, Grandma Jia, exhausted from preparing for the Lunar New Year festivities, lies on her couch chatting with family while wearing glasses to watch opera. She then asks Hupo to sit on the couch and use a "beauty fist" to massage her legs. In the episode “Qingwen Mends the Feather Robe,” after Qingwen finishes repairing the feather robe, she feels physically drained, and Jia Baoyu immediately orders someone to massage her legs. These descriptions reference the ancient Chinese percussion therapy. In southern Fujian and Taiwan, Tui Long typically involves using a hollow fist, whereas the "beauty fist" described in *Dream of the Red Chamber* is actually a small wooden mallet with a leather-covered tip. Tui Long promotes blood circulation, accelerates metabolism, relieves muscle tension, and relaxes joints—especially shoulders, necks, elbows, wrists, and fingers—helping prevent muscle strain, cervical spondylosis, arthritis, shoulder periarthritis, and cardiovascular diseases. One may wonder why this therapy is called "Tui Long." It is said that locals regard the body's meridians as coiled dragons winding through the body, hence the name.
