Headache refers to pain in the upper part of the head—from the brow ridge to the occipital region. It is a common subjective symptom seen in various acute and chronic diseases.
Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment:
Primary Points: Baihui, Fengchi, Taiyang
1. Liver Yang Rising
【Diagnostic Criteria】Headache and dizziness, irritability, insomnia, red face, bitter taste in mouth; red tongue with yellow coating, string-like and rapid pulse.
【Prescription】Taichong, Yanglingquan
2. Phlegm-Turbidity Rising Upward
【Diagnostic Criteria】Heavy-headed headache, fullness in the chest and epigastrium, vomiting of phlegm; white greasy tongue coating, slippery pulse.
【Prescription】Touwei, Zhongwan, Fenglong
3. Kidney Essence Deficiency
【Diagnostic Criteria】Empty headache, dizziness, lower back pain, weakness, fatigue, tinnitus, poor sleep; red tongue with little coating, fine and weak pulse.
【Prescription】Naokong, Shenshu, Xuanzhong, Taixi
4. Qi and Blood Deficiency
【Diagnostic Criteria】Persistent dull headache, worse with exertion; accompanied by palpitations, restlessness, fatigue, pale complexion, poor appetite; pale tongue with white coating, fine and weak pulse.
【Prescription】Xinshu, Pishu, Zusanli, Sanyinjiao
5. Blood Stasis Blocking Brain Network
【Diagnostic Criteria】Long-standing headache, fixed pain site, stabbing pain; purple-dark tongue or ecchymotic spots, fine and涩 or fine and string-like pulse.
【Prescription】Ah Shi Points, Hegu, Sanyinjiao, Xuehai, Weizhong
Other Therapies:
Auricular Acupressure: Zhan, E, Nao, Shenmen, Gan
Skin Needling: Points: Taiyang, Yintang, Ah Shi. Method: Percussion with bleeding, followed by cupping. Suitable for Liver Yang Rising and Blood Stasis types.
