Auricular Acupressure for Preventing Post-Abortion Syndrome
During artificial abortion procedures, some patients develop post-abortion syndrome, manifesting symptoms such as chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, and bradycardia, causing discomfort and complicating surgery. To prevent and alleviate these symptoms, we applied the method of Wangbuliuxing seed patching on auricular points during abortions and achieved satisfactory results, reported as follows:
Observation of 300 cases of early pregnancy abortion. Observation group (patching group): 200 patients, including 120 aged 20–30, 70 aged 31–40, 10 aged over 41; 160 pregnant 6–10 weeks, 40 pregnant 11–12 weeks. Control group: 100 patients, including 50 aged 20–30, 44 aged 31–40, 6 aged over 41; 80 pregnant 6–10 weeks, 20 pregnant 11–12 weeks. The observation group received Wangbuliuxing seed patching; the control group did not.
The observation group had 12 cases of post-abortion syndrome, incidence rate 6%; the control group had 18 cases, incidence rate 18%. Statistical analysis showed P<0.01. Symptoms such as chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, cold sweat, and bradycardia were milder in the observation group than in the control group, with some requiring medication in the control group.
Auricular Patching Method and Points: Use 6–7 grains of unroasted Wangbuliuxing seeds, adhered to 0.5 cm adhesive patches, placed on auricular points including Uterus, Stomach, Intestine, Heart, Shenmen, Cortex Suprarenalis, Adrenal Gland, press for 10–15 minutes before surgery.
For example, Patient Li, 4 pregnancies, 1 delivery, previously underwent 3 abortions, each time experiencing dizziness, chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, cold sweat during surgery. Now at 8 weeks pregnant, requesting abortion. After applying auricular patching with Wangbuliuxing, no such symptoms occurred during this surgery.
The current widely accepted pathogenesis of post-abortion syndrome is strong mechanical stimulation from cervical dilation, suction curettage, and scraping, particularly the stimulation from cervical dilators and the pain caused by high negative pressure during uterine aspiration, leading to vagus nerve excitation in sensitive individuals, releasing large amounts of acetylcholine, thereby affecting cardiovascular function. Placing Wangbuliuxing seeds on auricular points such as Uterus, Stomach, Intestine, Heart, Shenhmen, Cortex Suprarenalis, and Adrenal Gland has analgesic, antiemetic, calming, and sedative effects, thus preventing post-abortion syndrome.
Through clinical observation, using Wangbuliuxing seed patching on auricular points effectively prevents post-abortion syndrome, is safe and reliable, simple to operate, easy to master, and has no side effects.
