Massage for Restful Nights

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Massage
Insomnia is a common condition among middle-aged and elderly people, typically manifesting as difficulty falling asleep, easy awakening, inability to fall back asleep after waking, and severe cases involving complete sleeplessness. Data indicates that over 45% of elderly individuals suffer from varying degrees of insomnia. Once insomnia occurs, many turn to doctors and take sleeping pills, which can easily lead to drug dependence over time. Four non-pharmacological self-therapy methods are now introduced for reference:1. Supine Abdominal RubbingBefore bedtime, lie supine on the bed, mentally focus on the lower abdomen (navel). First, use the right hand to rub clockwise around the navel with moderate pressure, counting silently as you rub—120 times. Then switch to the left hand, rubbing counterclockwise around the navel 120 times. I have practiced this for over 20 years and found it highly effective in promoting deep sleep during the first half of the night. If unable to fall back asleep during the second half, repeat the same rubbing pattern with each hand for 60 times, which also aids sleep.Rubbing the abdomen stimulates gastrointestinal motility. Especially in older individuals with weakened digestive function, gas accumulation increases significantly, often causing the large intestine to swell. Rubbing the abdomen stimulates the intestines, expelling trapped gas through flatulence, thus facilitating peaceful sleep. Without rubbing, gas cannot escape, leading to intestinal bloating and disrupting sleep.2. Bean Treading MassageUse 500 grams of green beans. Heat them over low flame in an iron pan, then transfer to a basin. Wash and dry both feet. Use the residual heat from the beans to tread and knead them with both feet, alternating and continuously rubbing. Begin 1 hour before bedtime, continuing for about 30 minutes daily.3. Patting the Yongquan PointAfter washing feet before bed, sit upright on the bed. First, pat the left foot’s Yongquan point (KI1) with the right palm 120 times. Then pat the right foot’s Yongquan point with the left palm 120 times. Apply pressure so that a mild tingling or soreness is felt. This can effectively eliminate insomnia and promote sound sleep.
