Spa Massage Points and Musculoskeletal Therapy

🔑 Keywords: Other · Acupuncture and Tuina
In recent years, wellness hot springs, hydrotherapy lounges, and saunas named for water therapy have proliferated. Using high-pressure water jets to massage acupoints and muscles has become increasingly popular among modern people. Experts warn, however, that while enjoying the sensation of water jets stimulating acupoints and muscles, sessions should be limited to ten minutes; furthermore, water jets should not directly strike the head or back of the neck, especially for those with spinal disorders or osteoporosis, who must be particularly cautious.
Besides bubble baths similar to massage tubs, many hydrotherapy lounges, spas, and saunas are equipped with water jet or waterfall shower facilities. The pressure from high-altitude water flow can stimulate acupoints and muscles, achieving physical massage effects. However, attention must be paid to water temperature, flow rate, water shape, and duration of exposure. If the water jet force is too strong or the exposure time too long, sports injuries may occur.
Research indicates that the optimal water pressure for effective hydrotherapy is approximately 0.7 kg per square centimeter on the body surface. At this pressure level, the desired effect of massaging acupoints and muscles can be achieved.
Experts state that reputable spas should have professional physical therapists or nurses design customized hydrotherapy regimens. Hydrotherapy should be combined with appropriate water temperature, water pressure, and exposure duration to achieve noticeable results without causing sports injuries. Generally, sessions should last no more than ten minutes. If water temperature and pressure are too high, exposure should be limited to no more than five minutes.
