Simple Self-Therapy for Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are common and frequently occurring conditions. Due to bipedalism in humans, blood from the rectal veins faces difficulty returning upward, compounded by downward pressure from internal organs, making venous dilation and hemorrhoids more likely. Clinical manifestations include anal itching, swelling and pain, and bleeding. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory: hemorrhoids result from heat forcing blood downward, causing stagnation and obstruction. Aging, weakness, alcohol consumption, smoking, and spicy diets are common triggers. Therefore, scientifically sound and simple self-therapy plays a significant role in managing this condition.
1. Dietary and Lifestyle Regulation: Maintain regular routines, defecate at fixed times daily to ensure smooth bowel movements; clean the anus frequently and keep it dry. Diet should be light, avoiding spicy and irritating foods. Increase intake of vegetables and fruits such as watermelon, banana, and tomato, which have laxative properties. In summer, drink more salted water to prevent excessive sweating.
2. Medicinal Adjustment: Mix mirabilite and Sichuan pepper in a 10:1 ratio, pour boiling water over it, and use for fumigation and washing. Alternatively, after each bowel movement, wash with warm water, then apply external ointments such as Jiuhua Gao, Wubeizi San, or Huanglian Gao.
3. Exercise Regulation: Appropriate exercise reduces venous pressure, enhances cardiovascular function, relieves constipation, and strengthens muscles—beneficial for hemorrhoid prevention and treatment. The most convenient and effective method is anal contraction exercises: relax the entire body, tighten the buttocks and thighs, inhale deeply, lift the anus upward, hold briefly, then exhale and fully relax. This exercise can be done anytime, anywhere.
