Acupressure for Youthfulness and Longevity
By applying different techniques to specific meridian points, acupressure can promote the flow of energy through the meridians, enhance immune function, strengthen the body, and prolong life.
1. Scalp Combing with Ten Fingers
The head is the convergence point of all yang meridians, and the brain is the sea of marrow—where all yang qi gathers. Each morning and evening, comb the scalp from the forehead hairline to the back of the neck using the ten fingers, 60 times each direction. This method promotes blood circulation and helps prevent cerebrovascular diseases.
2. Palming and Facial Rubbing
As people age, their meridians and qi-blood become deficient, leading to dull complexion. Each morning and evening, rub the palms together until warm, then gently massage the face 60 times. This stimulates facial blood flow, making the face full, rosy, and elastic, helping prevent aging and wrinkles while enhancing mental alertness.
3. Earlobe Rubbing
"The ears are the orifices of the kidneys." The kidneys open into the ears, which are also the convergence points of six yang meridians. Rub both earlobes 60 times each morning and evening, until a sensation of warmth or mild burning is felt. This method helps prevent deafness, tinnitus, and ear-related diseases (contraindicated in those with ear disease or suppurative otitis media).
4. Teeth Tapping and Tongue Snapping
Teeth belong to the kidneys—"the kidneys govern bones; when kidney qi is weak, teeth become weak; at age 64, teeth and hair fall out." Regularly tapping teeth daily strengthens them, and strong teeth bring good fortune. Tap teeth 60 times each morning and evening to strengthen teeth and prevent dental diseases and tooth loss.
"The heart opens into the tongue," and the tongue is the manifestation of the heart. Snap the tongue 60 times each morning and evening. Tongue snapping provides beneficial stimulation to the brain, helping maintain brain health.
5. Neck and Shoulder Massage
The neck and shoulder area is a vital passage for meridians connecting to the head and limbs. Massage this area 60 times each morning and evening to help prevent cervical spondylosis, vascular headaches, and cerebrovascular diseases.
6. Scapular Massage
The scapular region is where the three yang meridians of hands and feet converge. Massage this area 60 times each morning and evening to help prevent periarthritis of the shoulder and cervical spondylosis.
7. Upper Limb Massage
The upper limbs are key pathways of the three yin and three yang meridians of the hands, serving as crucial links between internal organs and external limbs. Massage from the inner axilla (Jiquan point) to the inner wrist (Neiguan point), and from the outer wrist (Waiguan point) to the shoulder (Jianjing point), 60 times each morning and evening. This method clears the meridians, harmonizes qi and blood, and effectively treats cardiovascular and respiratory system disorders and upper limb pain.
8. Flank Massage
The flank region is where the liver and gallbladder meridians (Qimen and Zhangmen points) intersect. Massage this area 60 times each morning and evening to soothe the liver, regulate qi, clear liver heat, and benefit gallbladder function. It is effective for treating liver and gallbladder diseases, side cramps, and intercostal neuralgia.
9. Abdominal Acupoint Massage
The abdomen lies along the Ren meridian. Each morning and evening, place the hands overlapping over the navel (Shenque point), and massage clockwise 60 times, then counterclockwise 60 times. This improves digestive, reproductive, and urinary system functions.
10. Lumbar Massage
"The waist is the residence of the kidneys." The kidneys are the foundation of constitution, governing bones and storing essence. Massage the lower back (Shenshu, Mingmen points, etc.) each morning and evening until warmth is felt, strengthening the kidneys and waist. This is highly effective for treating kidney deficiency lumbar pain, rheumatic lumbar pain, ankylosing spondylitis, and lumbar disc herniation.
11. Sacral and Coccygeal Massage
The sacrococcygeal region is like the "root of a great tree." Massage the eight bones (Baihui, Changqiang points) 60 times each morning and evening, improving sacral-lumbar pain and sexual function.
12. Lower Limb Massage
The lower limbs are the main pathways of the three yin and three yang meridians of the feet. Each morning and evening, repeatedly pat from the lower part (Sanyinjiao point—Xuanzhong point) upward to the upper leg (Zusanli—Yinlingquan), and from the lower thigh (Liangqiu point—Xuehai point) to the upper thigh (Fengshi, Huantiao points), 60 times. This method activates blood circulation, regulates qi, relaxes tendons, and improves spleen and stomach function.
Before bedtime, soak feet in warm water for 30 minutes (water temperature 42–45°C in winter). After slightly drying the feet, repeatedly rub and push the soles (Yongquan point) 60 times. Yongquan is the origin of the kidney meridian, effective for warming and tonifying the kidneys, enhancing brain function, and improving blood circulation.
