Abstinence After Drinking Alcohol
Abstinence After Drinking Alcohol
After drinking alcohol, one becomes excited and loses self-control, leading to excessive indulgence in sexual activity, aiming to exhaust all essence. This excessive depletion severely impacts physical and mental health. The "Plain Questions: On the True Nature of Ancient Times" warns: "Treating wine as water, making recklessness routine, indulging in sex while drunk, exhausting essence, dissipating true qi, unaware of moderation, failing to manage the spirit, pursuing momentary pleasure, going against the joy of life, living without discipline—thus declining by fifty years old." Tang Dynasty physician Sun Simiao said: "Do not engage in sex when drunk. Drunk and full intercourse causes minor issues like pale face and coughing, major ones like severed vital organs and fatal damage." Ming Dynasty physician Gong Tingxian also said: "Sexual activity after heavy drinking exhausts the liver and intestines, causing male sperm to diminish and impotence; for women, menstrual flow decreases, stagnant blood causes sores." Alcohol, sweet, spicy, and bitter in taste, hot in nature, has functions of promoting blood circulation, removing cold and stasis. But its extreme heat can burn and deplete essence, blood, and bone marrow, and also stimulate lust, increasing sexual desire. Meanwhile, sexual activity consumes substantial physical energy and vital substances. Drinking alcohol before sex leads to dual depletion of essence and blood—like pouring soup into a leaking pot over a fierce fire—necessarily shortening lifespan. Modern clinical data also confirm that male and female sexual dysfunction, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and osteomyelitis are all linked to sexual activity after excessive drinking. When one partner is intoxicated and mentally agitated, with heightened sexual desire, they may impose excessive demands on the other, even acting roughly, harming the other’s feelings.
