Recommended Dietary Remedies for Bad Breath
· Huoxiang Porridge: 15g Huoxiang (30g fresh), 50g glutinous rice. Wash Huoxiang (15g or 30g fresh), place in an aluminum pot (must use aluminum pot), add water, decoct for 5 minutes, discard residue, keep the liquid. Rinse 50g glutinous rice, add to pot with adequate water, bring to boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat until porridge is ready. Add Huoxiang juice, cook for another 1–2 minutes. Serve. Has effects of dispersing summer heat and warding off noxious vapors.
· Mint Porridge: 30g fresh mint leaves (15g dried), 50g glutinous rice. Wash fresh mint (30g or 15g dried), boil in pot with adequate water, strain, keep the juice. Rinse 50g glutinous rice, cook with adequate water until rice is soft, then pour in mint juice, cook for 1–2 minutes. Serve. Has benefits of clearing the throat and promoting fresh breath.
· Lychee Porridge: 5–7 dried lychees (shell removed), 50g glutinous rice or sticky rice. Cook together with adequate water until soft porridge forms. Eat at dinner time. Consume continuously for 3–5 days per course. Has functions of warming yang, boosting qi, generating body fluids, and nourishing blood. Suitable for bad breath and elderly people suffering from early morning diarrhea. Not recommended for elderly individuals with pre-existing yin deficiency and excessive internal fire.
· Raw Lotus Root Porridge: 30g raw lotus root, 50g glutinous rice. Wash raw lotus root, boil with water to extract medicinal juice. Rinse 50g glutinous rice, cook until eight-tenths done, then pour in the medicinal juice, cook until rice is fully soft. Consume on an empty stomach in the morning. Has functions of clearing heat, relieving irritability, eliminating foul odors. This porridge should not be consumed for too long.
