Chronic Gastritis Dietary Choices

Chronic Gastritis Dietary Choices
(1) Pay attention to consuming nutritious foods. Eat more high-protein and high-vitamin foods to ensure adequate intake of various nutrients, preventing anemia and malnutrition. For those with anemia or malnutrition, include foods rich in protein and heme iron such as lean meat, chicken, fish, liver, and other organ meats in the diet. High-vitamin foods include deep-colored fresh vegetables and fruits like leafy greens, tomatoes, eggplants, and red dates. It is recommended to eat 2–3 fresh hawthorns per meal to stimulate gastric juice secretion.
?
(2) Maintain acid-base balance. When gastric acid secretion is excessive, drink milk or soy milk, or eat steamed buns or bread to neutralize stomach acid. When gastric acid secretion is reduced, consume concentrated meat broth, chicken soup, sour fruits, or fruit juices to stimulate gastric juice secretion and aid digestion. Avoid foods that cause abdominal bloating and are high in fiber, such as legumes, bean products, sucrose, celery, and leeks. For individuals with atrophic gastritis, drinking yogurt is advisable because phospholipids in yogurt adhere tightly to the gastric lining, protecting the mucosa and aiding in healing damaged areas. The unique components in yogurt—lactose metabolized into lactic acid and glucuronic acid—increase gastric acidity, inhibit harmful bacteria from breaking down proteins into toxins, and protect the stomach from toxin damage, thus benefiting treatment and recovery of gastritis.
?
(3) When taking antibiotics orally for certain inflammatory conditions, it is recommended to also consume yogurt. This not only replenishes nutrition but also prevents side effects caused by antibiotics, as yogurt contains large amounts of active bacilli that restore balance to gut flora disrupted by antibiotics and simultaneously protect the gastric mucosa.
It is essential to control portion sizes during meals; do not overeat favorite foods. Instead, adopt a pattern of eating small meals frequently to enhance nutrition and reduce gastric burden, while strictly avoiding alcohol and tobacco.
