Hawthorn Porridge
[Ingredients] 20 grams of hawthorn, 100 grams of glutinous rice, 10 grams of sugar.
[Preparation] First boil hawthorn in a clay pot to extract concentrated juice, remove residue, then add glutinous rice, sugar, and appropriate water to cook into porridge.
[Usage] Eat as a meal accompaniment or snack; do not consume on an empty stomach. One course lasts 7 days.
[Effects] Strengthens the spleen and stomach, eliminates food stagnation, disperses blood stasis. Suitable for food stagnation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and children’s indigestion due to milk feeding.
[Comment] Hawthorn contains lipase and hawthorn acid, which promote fat and protein breakdown. Hawthorn decoction shows antibacterial effects against Shigella, Proteus, and E. coli, making it an excellent remedy for gastrointestinal diseases. However, hawthorn is acidic, so patients with gastric ulcers should avoid excessive consumption. Hawthorn also promotes blood circulation and removes stasis, so pregnant women should avoid excessive intake.
