Fresh Reed Rhizome Porridge

[Ingredients] 100 grams fresh reed rhizome, 20 grams bamboo茹 (bamboo fleece), 100 grams glutinous rice, 10 grams ginger.
[Preparation] Wash fresh reed rhizome, cut into small pieces, boil together with bamboo fleece, filter out residue, take juice, add glutinous rice and cook into porridge. Add ginger when porridge is nearly done, briefly cook.
[Usage] Serve as meal accompaniment, 2–3 times daily, continue for 5 days.
[Action] Clears heat, relieves irritability, generates body fluids, stops vomiting. Suitable for pregnancy-related nausea, thirst and irritability due to high fever, gastric heat-induced vomiting, persistent hiccups.
[Comment] Reed rhizome is sweet and cold, entering lung and stomach meridians. It is an excellent antiemetic herb. Its constituent, coixol, has antipyretic and sedative effects. Particularly effective for pregnancy nausea, irritability and thirst, as well as vomiting and hiccups caused by upward surge of stomach qi. Combined with bamboo fleece, its antiemetic effect is enhanced.
