Home Remedies for Summer Diarrhea
Dietary therapy for diarrhea can include:
1. 7 peppercorns, 1 egg. Crack egg and make a hole, grind pepper into fine powder, place inside egg, seal with wet paper. Wrap eggshell with 3–5 mm thick wet flour paste, roast over charcoal until cooked. Remove shell and swallow with white wine on empty stomach. 1 day, 3g. Efficacy: disperses cold, warms center, stops diarrhea.
2. 100g rice. Roast rice until charred, add water to cook into porridge, consume freely. Efficacy: strengthens spleen, removes dampness.
3. Fresh cucumber leaves for diarrhea: Take fresh cucumber leaves, brush off fuzz, wash clean, crush and squeeze juice into a bowl. Mix equal amount of honey (~3 tablespoons) with cucumber juice, stir well, and drink in one dose. Usually cured within 1–2 doses.
4. 3g each of American ginseng, Coptis chinensis, Amomi fruticosi, Prunus mume, 6g each of white peony root, processed kudzu root, 2g licorice, 8g plantain seed. 1 dose per day, decoct with water, mix with rice to cook into porridge for consumption.
5. 200g camphor wood bark (remove dark outer layer, keep red inner layer), 50g young pomegranate leaves, 50g rice. First crush camphor wood bark, stir-fry over high heat until carbonized, then stir-fry pomegranate leaves until crisp, and stir-fry rice until yellow. Boil with water for about 5–7 minutes, filter and drink the liquid.
6. Grape leaves for diarrhea: Take 25–50g fresh grape leaves, wash clean, put in pot, add water just covering the herbs. Boil twice, combine both decoctions, filter and set aside.
7. 30g lotus seed, 60g Chinese yam, 4g agastache leaf, 15g cornus fruit, 15g malt (or sprouted barley), 10g prunus mume, 9g citrus aurantium. Dry-roast and grind into fine powder, store in sealed bottle. Take 10g each time, dissolve in hot water, add a little sugar, briefly boil, cool slightly before consuming. Used for chronic diarrhea.
