Constant Mountain may cause vomiting, so it is combined with Thickened Magnolia Bark, Green Peel, Tangerine Peel, and Licorice to strengthen the spleen, dry dampness, regulate qi, and harmonize the center. For patients with recurrent malaria and bitter taste in mouth with greasy tongue coating, taking the medicine about three hours before an attack yields good results.

Comment: This is an excellent prescription for treating malaria, with Constant Mountain as the main herb—known as a highly effective antimalarial agent. Tortoise Shell treats chronic malaria, malaria masses, and chest/rib pain; combined with Cuttlebone, it reduces the nausea and vomiting side effects of Constant Mountain. The distinctive feature of this formula is using wine for extraction, which aids in dissolving alkaloids in Constant Mountain, and employs low-temperature heating ("slightly warm near fire and rotate," one night complete), holding value in the study of pharmaceutical history.
