Herbal Dietary Formula for Chronic Constipation
△ Sweet Potato Porridge
Prescription: 50 grams sweet potato, 50 grams millet.
Usage: Wash and peel the sweet potato, cut into small pieces; rinse millet clean. Place both in a pot, add appropriate amount of water, bring to boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat until porridge is soft. Take twice daily, as breakfast or dinner.
Indication: Chronic constipation due to weak stomach and yin deficiency.
△ Sesame Porridge
Prescription: 6 grams black sesame seeds, 50 grams rice, a small amount of honey.
Usage: Heat pan, add sesame seeds, stir-fry over medium heat until fragrant and cooked, then remove. Rinse rice clean. Place rice in pot, add appropriate water, bring to boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat. When rice is about 80% cooked, add sesame seeds and honey, mix well, continue cooking until porridge is soft. Take twice daily, as breakfast or dinner.
Indication: Deficiency of liver and kidney, joint pain, constipation, etc.
△ Milk Porridge
Prescription: 250 grams fresh milk, 100 grams rice, appropriate amount of sugar.
Usage: Rinse rice clean, place in pot, add appropriate water, bring to boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat until rice is soft and porridge formed. Add sugar and milk, reheat to boiling. Take twice daily, as breakfast or dinner.
Avoid acidic foods after consuming milk porridge.
Indication: Weak constitution, blood and qi deficiency, constipation, etc.
△ Hemp Seed Chestnut Cake
Prescription: Appropriate amount each of sesame seeds and hemp seeds, 30 grams chestnut flour, 30 grams corn flour, appropriate amount of red sugar.
Usage: Wash sesame seeds clean, drain moisture. Grind hemp seeds into fine powder. Mix sesame seeds, hemp seed powder, and corn flour in a bowl, then add chestnut flour, red sugar, and water to form dough. Steam the dough over high heat for 15–20 minutes. Take once daily, as breakfast.
